Abbot Tryphon is currently one of the most followed Orthodox monks in North America. His honesty and pastoral boldness are the among the reasons why. His dedication to the Orthodox Faith is an inspiration to all of us. His blog is abbottryphon.com. If it is not part of your daily Orthodox reading, then it should be.
We are reprinting Abbot Tryphon’s post from 12/27/2021 below. Find the original here. His comments on the COVID jabs are timely. The jabs are controversial in Orthodoxy. A few bishops have endorsed the vaccines, even going so far as to declare that there is no possible religious exemption for Orthodox Christians. Some bishops are so enthusiastic on the subject, they seem almost to be a marketing arm for Pfizer. The majority of bishops seem silent on the subject, usually deferring to personal conscience and personal medical decisions. This silence, however, seems to mask deep divisions among the clergy. A few bishops, and other clergy, as we have covered before, have been very forthright in questioning the morality of the jabs and their effectiveness. Few have been as outspoken as Abbot Tryphon.
As we have published before, despite the meteoric rise in cases, we firmly believe the pandemic narrative is on its last legs. As you read the words of Abbot Tryphon, take hope. We must endure but a little while longer.

God Arranges Everything for Our Salvation
by Abbot Tryphon
I have chosen not to take the vaccine. I do not think any vaccine will prevent anyone from getting Covid, and I have read with increased horror as the evidence has become increasingly clear within the scientific community that this vaccine is in reality causing the spread of this virus within the human community, while preventing natural immunity.
The evidence is clear that those doctors and scientists who see the vaccines as unproven, and even dangerous long term, are being silenced by their colleagues within the scientific community. For those who understand science, we know that science is not like history, for it is ever changing as more is discovered. Yet we have certain individuals within the scientific community suppressing dissidence, crushing anyone who would disagree with their take on the pandemic.
We Orthodox know that God sometimes visits upon us wars and plagues as a way of calling us out of our darkness and sin. We know that God arranges such things as a way of waking us up to that which is of eternal value.
It seems clear to me that this world-wide pandemic comes from the Evil One. Nothing in my lifetime has caused such fear among the masses of people, world wide. This season that normally leads to gatherings of family and friends around the table in celebration of the Nativity of Our Salvation, has instead seen the closure of churches, and families banning their unvaccinated members from joining them in celebration. It has seen clergy closing their churches out of fear, not remembering that it is the gathering within our churches that has alway brought about the healing that is so needed during times of trial.
Saint Luke the Surgeon, Archbishop of Simferopol, a bishop that the Soviets chose not to execute because he was considered one of the finest surgeons in Russia, and was therefore needed by the Soviet State, recommended Holy Water as the cure for what ails us.
“Drink Holy Water, the more often, the better. It is the best and most effective medicine. I’m not saying this as a priest, I’m saying it as a doctor, from my medical experience.”
At seventy-six years of age, I am no spring chicken, as they say. Yet I have chosen to trust God to keep me safe during this pandemic. I therefore add holy water to every glass of water I drink during the day, and I anoint myself with the miraculous myrrh of the holy icon of the Theotokos of Hawaii, every day.
Additionally, I consume the Holy Body and Blood of my Saviour during the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, with the full knowledge that in doing so I am receiving healing of body and soul. If I should die from a virus that was intentionally introduced by the godless leaders of China, with the intention of conquering the West, and creating a one world government, so be it.
In my weakness, I pray on a daily basis that the Lord will never let me deny Him, even unto my last breath. I put my trust in God, and not in the “scientific and medical” authorities who are hell bent on controlling everyone, including church leaders. I trust only in the mercy of my Lord.
We monks are grateful that we have an opportunity to serve the Divine Liturgy and partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, yet we also realize that many others are not so fortunate. Many churches have closed their doors to the faithful, fearful that the Corona virus will infect their people if they should gather before the Throne of God, in worship. In truth, we should only fear God.
I would conclude by pointing out that the mandatory and dictatorial push for the vaccine by governments and companies around the world is clear evidence that this vaccine is of the devil. Let us stand strong in our resistance to the godless authorities, and let us renew our commitment to Jesus Christ, and to the eternal truth that resides within the Life of the Church.
With love in Christ,
Abbot Tryphon
You need to be careful with this abbot, he claims publicly that the Roman Catholics have valid sacraments, and other things as well.
We have heard that. We don’t endorse everything about Abbot Tryphon to be sure, but he has been really good on this issue. He also inspires a lot of people to keep up the resistance. The problems he has had with ministries such as with Ancient Faith Radio have been centered around his resistance to the shots and the COVID narrative. In other words, he seems to have all the right enemies and to be associated with all the right friends. That is shallow analysis on our part, we know. We would never publicize anything he wrote or said about valid RC sacraments (for example), unless it was to criticize it. On the other hand, many contributors have quoted Vigano on the shots and the Great Reset. Would we follow Vigano as a bishop? Of course not, but on those topics he is absolutely right and speaks with great wisdom. On other topics, eh, not so much. He’s still RC after all. Long way of saying that for any living Orthodox Christian, or any other speaker / writer / leader for that matter, publicizing their thoughts on a given point of agreement is not a wholehearted endorsement of all aspects of them personally, their thoughts, their writings, or their ministries.
Thank you for reprinting this. Abbot Tryphon hits the nail on the head. I agree with his views and assessments. We Orthodox Christians must learn see these issues through the lens of Faith, not science alone. We must live what we profess.
Fr. Tryphon mentioned Holy Water for healing. Take a look at this video about water. References to Holy Water begin about 1:00:00.

Abbot Tryphon writes:
“I would conclude by pointing out that the mandatory and dictatorial push for the vaccine by governments and companies around the world is clear evidence that this vaccine is of the devil. Let us stand strong in our resistance to the godless authorities …”
This will back up his assessment of what is happening:

Quote from Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg around min 31: “It is worse than Nuremberg what happens now, it is horrible … There are thousands of Mengeles now, and some of them don’t know; but others know very well what they do. And they kill people. They kill thousands of people.”

Thank you Abbott Tryphon for speaking truth. God be with you.
This is one we can model our lives after. Let us contemplate our devout elder (and of course, I will add some other timely comments).
1. Fr. Tryphon actually believes our stuff. Rather than running out to the doctor for a prescription, he uses the Holy Water and the Eucharist as his medicine as well as a defense just like the saints of old. Is God’s arm so short He cannot save? Do we believe our stuff? We all have the same treasures of the Church that he does; its not just for saints and monks; its the birthright of every Orthodox who keeps his Faith current with God and the Church. Fr. Tryphon actually puts his trust in what the Fathers gave us.
(Many, many more years– Fr. Tryphon; we receive your council as from God’s throne knowing you were sent for such a time as this. Your short but fatherly message will assist in the way forward shedding light on how to live the Faith as the Fathers did under the current chaos.)
2. Because his Faith is in the mysteries of the Church and therefore in God, he does not have to ignore the reality of our situation in order to stay in peace; as Jesus said, “MY PEACE I leave with you, not as the world gives.” If your peace is based in the stability of things around you, you will live in torment.
Without this transcendent peace, some of us simply refuse to see the present darkness that is pushing the Mystery of Iniquity into power everywhere, including some Orthodox jurisdictions. Creating for ourselves a false reality, we come to live a lie and miss God’s will in other ways of daily living. Without this peace, there is no security…anywhere.
In closing, he makes the point the coercion defines the nature of the shot (not just the ingredients–a cocktail of slow moving poisons). This caveat goes for bishops, priests,as well as government. When you coerce, you demonstrate what spirit you are of.
Many priests who openly advocated for the shot, are now living a hellish nightmare, because so many opinions and decisions were formed by representatives of the “ground and pillar of truth”. They have created an unresolvable conflict in themselves that is sin as well as conflict among parishioners. It is far better a priest not repose until this is resolved as just confessing it to his spiritual guide without taking steps of remediation will never totally bring resolution. Without proper relief, I fear some clergy will not rest in peace when they repose; their tormenting inner conflict take they into the grave.
There is a way to RESOLVE THIS CONFLICT. That would be for the priest (or bishop) to openly admit the error and then offer to the people (not the bishop) his resignation. If the people decline the resignation (the people have veto power too), he can stay and chart a better course for his parish; this will restore full unity. If not, if he gets a vote of no confidence, then he has to walk, but his conscience will be clear and he can live in peace with himself, the Church across all generation, and when the time comes, repose in peace. Most clergy cannot bring themselves to the proper remedy, because they lack real humility.
Bottom line: in the Church, the overseers govern with the consent of the governed. Without this, there can be no free will.
When all issues like these are properly resolved, when all channels are cleared, TRUE UNITY will appear. Unity is never coerced by “just get with the program”. Trust must be restored, without trust there can be no relationship, there will be no fellowship, and unity will never appear. When genuine unity appears, the anointing oil, the sweet Presence of Christ with His blessing (Psalms 132) falls upon the head (Christ), flows over the beard (the priesthood) and going even unto the boarders of the garment (those loosely connected).
“In my weakness, I pray on a daily basis that the Lord will never let me deny Him, even unto my last breath. I put my trust in God, …”
Abbot Tryphon’s offering is an absolutely beautiful expression of faith. And his words are opening my eyes to the true nature of the global propaganda campaign that is unlike anything I’ve seen in my life.
Abbott Tryphon: Thank-you very much for your encouraging December 27,2021 post. In 2017, at age 70, I converted from Catholicism to the Orthodox faith. I don’t regret converting to the faith of my forefathers, however, many of the hierarches of the “one, true Church of Christ”, like many of the Catholic hierarches, have made, in word and deed, a mockery of their office during this pandemic.
May GOD BLESS and KEEP you. Stephen
Now this man is Orthodox. In him we find the genuine article. All that other mess, that’s not Orthodox.
Thank you. I need say no more.
Thank you.
