Orthodox Reflections is a collaborative effort by committed Orthodox Christians to provide thoughtful analysis of the Orthodox Christian faith’s interaction with American culture. We believe it is time for the Orthodox Church, as the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, to fulfill her rightful mission on these shores–the salvation of all and building a truly native, indigenous Orthodox culture. These reflections are our humble contribution toward that end.
The American people long for an authentic experience of God. The rich treasury of Holy Tradition and fullness of grace uniquely found within the Orthodox Church can address this spiritual yearning; but, for this to happen, Orthodox Christianity must “go native”–that is to say, it must engage and transform American culture. That which is unacceptable from an Orthodox perspective must be redeemed; and, that which is already good must be amplified and encouraged. The spiritual wellbeing of future generations of Americans will be profoundly impacted by the vital ministries and evangelism of Orthodox Christianity.
Many of our articles present topics that only a year or two ago would have been completely uncontroversial; however, today, that is not the case. This illustrates the significant need for Orthodox Reflections, where the challenging issues of our day are openly, responsibly, and courageously addressed in an open forum.
Given the turbulent culture, more than a few angry readers contact our blog with divergent views, demanding to know who we are. Why do you suppose that is? Cancel culture is a real thing. So, although the ideas put forward are what matters, many of our contributors need to remain anonymous, even if they would all prefer to sign their work. Unfortunately, that is not the world we live in. For an in-depth treatment of this topic, please see this article about anonymity.
