Feast Days: Martyrdom 22 August, translation of Relics: 22 January

St Mohrael’s martyrdom occurred around 303-306 AD in Egypt at the age of 12. Before she was martyred Jesus, appeared to her and promised that whoever mentions her name or intercedes through her, that God would answer his/her requests. She had accepted suffering with great joy and patience, and that whoever calls his daughter after you then I will bless that house. Whoever writes your life story I will write his name in the book of life. Whoever takes care of your church, her servants and so on… then I will give him/her a place in heaven. Jesus also gave her many other promises, for her and for those who would take care of her story, her picture and so on….

PATRON SAINT of granting wishes, perseverance.

FIRST PRAYER

O Saint Mohrael, pure and courageous martyr of Christ, intercede for us before the Throne of Grace. Through thy prayers may we emulate thy faith, find healing in soul and body, and be granted the joy of the heavenly Kingdom, glorifying the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

FINAL LONG PRAYER TO SAINT MOHRAEL

O holy, glorious, and God-bearing Martyr Mohrael, pure lamb of Christ and victorious bride of the Heavenly Bridegroom, who at the tender age of twelve years didst receive the imperishable crown of martyrdom in the days of the fierce persecution under Emperor Diocletian, hear the voice of our supplication and intercede for us sinners before the throne of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thou wast born in the town of Tamouh near ancient Menf as a miraculous gift to the pious priest Youannis and his barren wife Ilaria (Telaria), after the prophecy of Bishop Ibsady (Besari) foretold that God would grant them righteous children destined to wear the crowns of martyrdom. O chosen vessel of divine grace, who didst grow in asceticism, prayer, and purity within thy devout household, look with compassion upon us who live in a world filled with temptations and trials. Grant us, through thy prayers, the grace to walk in chastity, humility, and unwavering devotion to Christ, even as thou didst from thy earliest youth.

O wonder-working healer, who wast anointed by the Most Holy Theotokos and Saint Elizabeth with heavenly perfume, and who didst receive power to heal the sick through prayer and blessed oil: heal the wounds of our souls and bodies. Thou who didst especially comfort pregnant women in their hour of need and restore thy cousin who fell from a height by the touch of thy anointed hands and the assistance of a luminous heavenly figure, intercede for all mothers, expectant mothers, and barren couples. Grant safe deliveries, healthy children, and the blessing of fertility according to God’s holy will. Comfort those who grieve over lost children, heal the sick, strengthen the weak, and console the sorrowful.

O courageous confessor and voluntary martyr, who didst leave thy water jug by the shore and board the boat of Christians being led to torture, refusing every enticement of the governor in Ansena—including offers of marriage and freedom—because thou didst love Christ more than earthly life: instill in us thy holy boldness. In times of persecution, mockery, or pressure to deny the faith, make us steadfast. When fear assails us or the pleasures of this world tempt us, remind us of thy example and fortify our resolve, that we may confess Christ with the simplicity and power of a child’s pure heart.

O invincible athlete of Christ, who didst endure without harm the crushing hinbazeen, the scorching iron chair, and three days enclosed with venomous serpents and scorpions in a sealed vessel upon the Nile, sustained only by prayer and divine grace: deliver us from every invisible enemy, from bodily and spiritual poisons, from despair, and from every snare of the evil one. As Christ Himself appeared to thee in thy final torments, granting peace and sweet fragrance, visit us in our afflictions and fill our hearts with the peace that surpasses understanding.

O blessed one whose holy body was miraculously returned by a divine wind to thy homeland, where thy father and the faithful built the first church over thy tomb and where many miracles flowed forth: bless our homes, our churches, and our communities. Protect all who name their daughters after thee, all who write or read thy life, all who venerate thy icon, and all who care for thy shrines. Remember especially the Coptic Orthodox Church, her patriarchs, bishops, priests, deacons, monastics, and faithful laity. Preserve the ancient faith in Egypt and throughout the world, and reunite all who confess the Name of Christ in truth and love. O Saint Mohrael, whose memory is kept with reverence on the 14th day of Tubah and whose church consecration is celebrated on the 22nd of Misra, together with thy brother martyr Saint Abahor, pray that we may live in peace, godliness, and purity. Grant us courage in suffering, joy in sacrifice, hope in despair, and victory over every trial. As the Lord promised thee that those who honor thee would be delivered from evil and written in the Book of Life, so fulfill these promises in our lives according to His mercy. Through thy prayers, O pure Martyr, may we be accounted worthy to stand at the heavenly wedding feast of the Lamb, where there is no more pain, sorrow, or sighing, but eternal joy in the presence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, together with the Most Holy Theotokos, Saint Mary, and all the saints.

For thou art a powerful intercessor and a swift helper to all who call upon thee with faith. To thee we cry with love and gratitude:

Rejoice, O Mohrael, God’s peace and power made manifest in a tender child!

Rejoice, voluntary martyr and healer of souls and bodies!
Rejoice, beloved daughter of the Church and intercessor for all generations!

Holy Saint Mohrael, pray to God for us! Amen.
